“But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you be not consumed by one another.” Galatians 5:15. When we say or do anything unkind to a fellow Christian, he may become defensive, and often an argument will ensue. We may look upon our disagreement as nothing more than a simple question of our rights. The Lord, however, sees the total picture, and He knows we’d be better off if we held our tongue and trusted Him for the outcome. When it comes to people problems, it’s easy to assume that we’re too smart and mature to let things go so far that we would actually harm others. But Paul reminds us that words and emotions can quickly get out of hand, even among Christians. When this happens, everyone loses. Feelings get hurt, friendships are destroyed, the church becomes divided, and the whole Body of Christ suffers. How important it is that we ask the Lord daily to help us be “kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another.” It’s better to bite your tongue than to allow it to bite someone else.
