“Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death.” Philippians 1:20. The apostle Paul, writing from prison, declared that his passionate desire was to magnify Christ. How thankful we should be as Christians that we have a noble purpose for being on this earth. The early church fathers understood it clearly when they said “Man lives to glorify God, to serve Him, and to enjoy Him forever.” That explains why missionaries laboring under extremely difficult conditions can be radiantly happy, and why martyrs could die singing and praying. Like Paul, they wanted Christ to be magnified in their bodies. They had a glorious reason for living – and for dying! Make sure the things you’re living for are worth dying for.
