The Longest Journey Still Begins With One Step
Your journey to becoming fully assimilated into the life of FBCH is facilitated by a series of four steps (classes) we call the Discipleship Classes. A Disciple is defined as… “one who subscribes to the teaching of a master and assists in spreading them”. Our mission as a church is, “To Produce Mature Followers of Christ”. A mature follower of Christ is a disciple. The Discipleship Classes are your First Steps to discovering what it means to be fully devoted followers of the Master, Jesus Christ.
Each of the classes in this series is taught 4-5 times a year and lasts for approximately 1-2 hours. Refreshments and a notebook are provided so advanced registration is appreciated although not required. There is no charge for attending any of the classes and child-care is available upon request, also at no charge. You may register by phoning the Church Office, or checking the appropriate box on the Sunday worship attendance registration. A variation of this class is also available for children and youth. For more information contact our pastor at 521-4708 or barrydlovett@aol.com. If no classes are currently scheduled, please let our pastor know of your interest and we will be happy to get it on the calendar!
FBC-101: Introducing Membership in God’s Family
The first step of that journey is “FBC-101: Introducing Membership in God’s Family”. This class is also referred to as The Welcome Class, because it is a great way for us to get acquainted and welcome you into our fellowship and share with you what we’re all about as a Church. In this class, taught by Pastor Barry, we talk about the four things that unite us together as a family of believers.
- What God has done for us
- Why we exist as a church
- How we fulfill our purpose
- When and where we fulfill our purpose
Whether you’re contemplating becoming a member of FBCH or just wanting to know more about what it means to be a person of faith, this is a good place to begin.
FBC-201: Developing Spiritual Maturity
In this class you learn about four habits that are essential to becoming a mature disciple of Christ…
- Spending time in God’s Word
- Prayer
- Tithing
- Fellowship
When we commit to these habits there are great benefits that are experienced by the individual and the church.
“…You have put off the old self with its habits, and have put on the new self…which God is continually renewing in his own image, to bring you to a full knowledge of himself.” – Colossians 3:9-10
FBC-301: Discovering My Ministry
The third class in the series, FBC-301: Discovering My Ministry, helps believers who have committed to the habits of spiritual maturity, discovered in FBC-201, to move to the next level of commitment by becoming involved in effective ministry. When you take this step you will discover the five personal factors that combine to “shape” the real you. By identifying these specific traits, the ministry God has designed you for will become clear. This class seeks to develop our greatest resource for ministry… our people. We believe people will enjoy serving when they are serving in areas God has shaped them for.
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others…” I Peter 4:10
FBC-401: Fulfilling My Life’s Mission
The last of the four Discipleship Classes is based on four Biblical truths:
- I was created to fulfill God’s purpose.
- God planned my life mission before I was born.
- Fulfilling my mission brings glory to God.
- My primary task in life is to fulfill my mission.
You will also learn ten reasons why you should share Christ with others and be motivated to so. Other topics covered in FBC-401 are:
- Telling your story – how to write and present your testimony
- Sharing the Good News – 3 tools and communication tips
- Five keys to personal evangelism
- Understanding Evangelism as a process
- Ways to stay “on mission” for God
