JAMES & LOUISE NIKKEL

Louise Martha Nikkel was born in 1931 to Louis and Annie MacPherson and grew up in Vancouver, BC Canada.  She married the love of her life, M. James Nikkel, in 1953.  In 1964 they moved to Edmonds, Washington where they raised their four children.  In 1983, once the nest was empty, Louise and Jim took flight to Honolulu.  They spent the next ten years in Hawaii, enjoying some of the happiest times of their lives, returning to Edmonds in 1993.  Louise had a quiet, gentle spirit, a poetic way with words and a bright sense of humor. A gifted cook, Louise loved to entertain.  Those who were fortunate enough to attend her many gatherings over the years left happy and well fed.  And the truly fortunate got a treasured copy of her self-published cook book “Home on the Range”. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2010, to whom she was deeply devoted.  She is survived by her children Jay Nikkel-Dumyahn (Tom), Karen Nikkel, Nancy Bertholet (Daryl, deceased), Scott Nikkel (Amy Grant), four grandchildren, Jamie, Alec, Laura and Matthew, and three great grandchildren.

Louise left this world peacefully and went to join Jim in Heaven on June 30, 2015.

My late husband, Yoshi, worked with Jim when he first came to Hawaii.  Yoshi and I were blessed to be frequent guests at Jim and Louise’s wonderful parties.  I am happy that Louise and Jim are together again. I will alway think of them with great fondness.  – Leslie H., Honolulu

Louise was my friend for eighty years! I remember how happy she was in the years she and Jim spent at First Baptist.   – Joy H.,Vancouver B.C.
