“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you…for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad.” Matthew 5:11-12. As Christians, we feel hurt when someone ridicules us for our faith. But the apostle Peter told us to follow the example of Jesus, who endured derision but didn’t retaliate. Peter may have been thinking of the day some 30 years earlier when he and John were arrested and flogged for preaching the gospel. He recalled how they could rejoice that “they were counted worthy to suffer for His name” Acts 5:41. If we’re right with God we can expect ridicule from the world.
