“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” I Corinthians 10:12.  The account of Samson and his great strength and mighty deeds captures the imagination of young and old alike.  Yet a sad note is sounded throughout the story of his life.  Although he was one of Israel’s great judges, a definite weakness can be seen in his character.  He had an eye for women, and compromised his principles by taking a wife from a heathen nation.  His downfall came because his life was inclined in the direction of certain fleshly tendencies.  The spiritual lesson is clear:  If we don’t live in close fellowship with the Lord each day, our lives will bend toward our besetting sin.  Then, when a crisis comes or if we are overtaken in a weak moment, we will be unable to withstand the pressure of our circumstances.  Samson’s fall is a tragic example of what can happen to a Christian who is leaning in the wrong direction.  Collapse in the Christian life is seldom a blowout; it is usually a slow leak.
