“…and have put on the new self,…in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:10. God’s purpose is to conform us to the image of His Son.  Indeed, that will be fully accomplished only when we see the Lord Jesus and become like Him. But right now, the Holy Spirit dwells with us, producing the “fruit of the Spirit” in our lives as we yield to Him.  That is the character of Christ being expressed as “love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).  At conversion we receive a new nature.  It comes into conflict with the old nature we inherited at birth.  What can we do about this struggle? We must yield ourselves “unto God, as those that are alive from the dead” (Romans 6:13). Rather than giving in to the flesh and excusing our weaknesses we are to put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians. 4:24).  He who is “born of God” should grow to be more and more like his Father!
