“Thus, says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways!” Haggai 1:7. God was speaking to the Israelites who were experiencing a hard time. He said, in effect, “think about it. You don’t have enough to eat. Your clothes don’t keep you warm. You’re not prospering because I commanded you to rebuild My house and you aren’t doing it. When you obey, My blessing will return.” That message may apply to us as well. When everything seems to be going wrong, the first step in solving our problems may be to consider our ways. Not all our troubles are of our own making, but when difficulties arise, it’s wise to consider our ways first. Like the people of Haggai’s day, we may find that our disobedience is blocking God’s blessing. The way of obedience is the way of blessing.
