“…so, let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” II Corinthians 9:7. Talking about giving is easy when you have little or nothing to give. How often Christians sing heartily the words of that old hymn, “take my silver and my gold – not a mite would I withhold.” When the collection plate is passed, however, they grudgingly drop in as little as they dare. Rather than giving with a glad heart, they do so with a feeling of obligation. God certainly doesn’t approve of that kind of response! Scripture tells us not to give “grudgingly, or of necessity.” As the Lord has prospered us let us return a portion to Him wisely, purposefully, and gladly. The highest kind of giving come from the bottom of the heart.
