“Take My yoke upon on you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest.” Matthew 11:28. Many people fail to distinguish between the two aspects of rest that Jesus offers in Matthew 11. The one is the free gift of salvation which we cannot earn. The other, costs all we can offer in terms of dedication to Christ. It is the rest that comes from walking with God in humble obedience. To gain this spiritual plateau, we must be faithful in three important areas of Christian living: service, study, and self-sacrifice. Do you want a tranquility of heart that will keep you happy, fruitful, and victorious in all circumstances? Then in gratitude for salvation’s rest, take Christ’s yoke and you will gain an even more satisfying rest. Self-preservation is the first law of nature; self-denial is the first law of sanctification.
