“I will judge his house… because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.” I Samuel 3:13. Eli let his two sons do pretty much as they pleased.  He rebuked them only after it was too late.  As a result they died.  His was a false kindness.  God, however, is compassionate but not permissive.   He chastens us when we do wrong. That’s true kindness.  Kindness that warns and recues is true kindness.
