Dear Members and Friends,
Beginning back in 2007 we started the process of looking into the possibility of building a high-rise on our existing property. The plan was for the Church to occupy the lower levels with the upper levels being affordable housing for seniors. An architect was secured and initial plans drawn up, but when the economy crashed in 2008 the plans were put on hold.
About a year ago the idea was revived when we were put in touch with Beacon Communities a subsidiary of the American Baptist Homes of the West. After an initial meeting, they agreed to take on our project and we began again the process of pursuing this dream. We have had two Open Forums in the past eight months, keeping the congregation informed and seeking input.
Unfortunately we have reached a road block and need your help. In 1959 our congregation planted a new church, The First Baptist Church of Pearl Harbor. To help with that effort we borrowed money from the American Baptist Home Mission Society. It was a “no interest, no maturity date” loan in the amount of $26,928. Since that time they have held a lien against our property and before we can proceed with the high rise we must clear our title by paying off that loan.
Between now and the end of the year we need to raise $16, 928. If we are able to do that a member of our church who chooses to remain anonymous has agreed to contribute the remaining $10,000 needed.
We are asking current & former members and friends of First Baptist Church of Honolulu to prayerfully consider the amount that God would have you donate toward this cause. We are excited to see how God is going to work to remove this mountain. Thank you for your partnership in the important, vibrant ministry we have together. We want to insure that what God started nearly 90 years ago with a small group of believers in this neighborhood will continue on for many more years to come.
