“Why are you cast down, O my soul?… Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.” Psalm 42:5. The writer of Psalm 42 was talking to himself, but he wasn’t’ crazy. He talked to himself about the truth of God’s character and he was strengthened and encouraged. Whenever you are downhearted, tell yourself: God loves me, He saved me, He’s in control, He’ll take me to heaven. Talking to yourself like this can be a helpful antidote to depression. Talking to yourself is the sanest thing you can do when you talk to yourself about God.
