“My grace is sufficient for you; for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” II Corinthians 12:9. The apostle Paul tells us that he had to live with an annoying “thorn in the flesh.” There has been much speculation about the nature of his illness. In any case, Paul prayed for healing, but it did not come. Instead, God revealed to him a truth that has comforted countless believers down through the centuries. Divine strength is made perfect through human weakness. That settled it for Paul, and we never read that he complained, indulged in self-pity, or used his illness as an excuse for idleness. God wants us to look beyond our symptoms and circumstances. Healing may not be within His will for us, but we can have that same wholeness of spirit experienced by Paul. It isn’t the load that weighs us down – it’s how we carry it.
