Sports columnist Henry McLemore wrote a moving article in which he confessed that he had wrongly labeled athletes as heroes. He said he began to take a different view after reading reports about young men who bravely faced bullets, shells, and bombs on the battlefield. Some athletes are fine people, but a hero is someone who serves God, his fellowman, or his country with valor and at great personal cost.
